| Any overseas student under
18 years of age attending a UK boarding school will be required to
have Guardianship. This simply means a responsible adult to take on
the legal responsibility for the young person. There is, however,
more to it.
• A Guardian will find a “guardian family” close
to the school where the student will be able to stay at half terms
and some weekends out of school.
• This family will also be expected to meet the student on arrival
in the UK and take him or her back to the airport when they return
home at the end of each school term.
• They are also expected to attend Parents’ Meetings and
any entertainment in which the student is taking part.
• The official Guardian will also be in regular touch with the
school to check on academic progress and the parents to ensure that
they are kept fully up to date.
Shilcock Education Guardianship Service can do all of the above plus
much more – as much or as little as the parents wish.
We can do everything – from purchasing school uniform and flight
tickets to paying school bills and pocket money.
Alternatively, if parents have a friend or family member in the UK,
then they may wish them to become Guardians. Parents may wish to consider
using Shilcock Education then to monitor the child’s educational
progress and negotiate with the school where necessary.
Good Guardianship can make the difference between success and failure
or a happy experience and an unsatisfactory one!
